Some “Egg-citing” News…

Wow friends, it’s been some time since we updated the blog.  Suffice it to say that things never slow down around here, but we have some really great things to update you on.

Barbezieux at The Vintage Press
Barbezieux at The Vintage Press

First, we had the absolute fortune of eating one of our very own Barbezieux at The Vintage Press in May.  Given their exceptional rarity, we didn’t want to take any chances on the preparation.  In short, it was the best chicken I have ever eaten in my life…full stop.  Roasted with fresh vegetables and accompanied by the many courses the VP has built its reputation on, the simple, yet exceptional preparation told us every thing we need to know about this famed chicken.  More exciting things to come on that front.  Many thanks to Greg and David, your support has been wonderful.

But back to eggs.  The demand for our eggs has exceeded our expectations.  In fact, we’ve struggled to return to the Farmer’s Market because we’re selling out before we even get there.  While we are working to expand our laying flock (hoping for a big fall), in the meantime you can find our eggs at local stores like Sage Roots in Three Rivers, and Enjoy, The Store in Visalia.  Thanks to both of these wonderful partners for supporting our efforts.  Make sure you visit them early and often, they are delightful.

img_4313In other egg news, the color we’re seeing in our boxes is really amazing, especially our Black Copper Marans eggs.  While we’ve enjoyed their chocolate eggs for years, we’ve finally found some genetics that are producing that storied Marans color.  Marans eggs are judged on a special color scale, and these are toping the charts.  Although all brown eggs lighten as the lay cycle continues, these beauties are still striking.  Head over to one of our partner stores and see for yourself.

We’re also excited to announce that we’re getting some great press this month.  You’ll find us quoted in an article, “Like Grandma and Grandpa Used to Keep,” by our friend Bruce Ingram in the new issue of Chickens magazine, out this week.  But what we’re really excited about is an interview we did with Enjoy the Magazine, due out by July 27th.  Many thanks to Monica and Jordan for working with us.

We hope to have more exciting news coming soon about a project we’re participating in with Mother Earth News!!  And you should be seeing a new look on our website soon.  Stay tuned…and we will try to stay up to date!

Blessings,

SF
